MACHLUD
‘Machlud’ pays homage to the breathtaking sunsets that grace the horizon. This site-specific and text-infused art beckons us to engage in sacred activism, a tribute to the cherished sunsets of times gone by. A poignant nod to "hiraethu," a Welsh term that encapsulates a profound yearning for places and moments that have left an indelible mark on our hearts. This creation invites us to embrace this sentiment as we reflect upon the sunsets that have etched themselves into our memories.
In a symbolic act, Kelly raised a sister flag above Aberarth Beach in Ceredigion, her home. This act bridges the rural and urban landscapes, joining them under the embrace of the same sun. The juxtaposition of these two settings, so different yet united by the shared sunsets, underscores the universal beauty that transcends geographical boundaries. The work is a tribute to the natural world and the emotions it stirs within us, reminding us of the interconnectedness that spans time and space.
